The famous streaming site has introduced a new plan for people who like to watch Netflix on the go (meaning: on their smartphones). In a statement which was shared with WORLD OF BUZZ, Netflix announced their new mobile plan for RM17/month.

Now, every Malaysian can choose from four plans – the Basic, Standard, Premium & Mobile – to view their favourite show on Netflix. Amazing!

Netflix’s Director of Product Innovation, Ajay Arora told us that they picked Malaysia as the FIRST Southeast Asian country to have the option of buying the mobile plan because they found that more Malaysians like to watch content on their smartphones.

Ajay Arora said,

“We found that Malaysians watch twice as much content on their smartphones compared to the rest of the world, and with this, we wanted to give members in Malaysia an additional plan that will best serve their requirements to better enhance the Netflix viewing experience.”

Did you know that as of 2019, 88 per cent of Malaysians own smartphones? Thus, that’s why Netflix dubbed us a “mobile-first country” and decided to introduce the mobile plan here first.

Not only that but an MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commissions) survey revealed that 78 per cent of Malaysians who use the internet spent time “streaming and downloading entertainment”.

Therefore, with 158 million subscribers in Malaysia, Netflix aims only to provide their customers with the best service as they will have access to the following benefits:

  • All local and international catalogue
  • No ads
  • No-hassle cancellation
  • Parental Controls

On top of that, Netflix will constantly improve the “mobile experience” with several other features – like Smart Downloads, mobile previews, adaptive UI and sharing to social media – to ensure that their customers are satisfied with their services. Nice!

Here’s how you can get your hands on this amazing plan:

  1. Download the Netflix app from Google Playstore/Apple Store onto your smartphone/tablet. Or you can just visit their website
  2. Then, select their new plan which is the Mobile plan for RM17/month
